No Knead was a live installation which offered the consideration of art as a combination of process, interaction and metabolic activity. An array of bread makers inhabited the Hellenic Centre at the launch of the Love Is My Velocity Cookbook II, filling the venue with the warm smell of baking bread. Each bread maker was set up at a station with an attendee armed with an electric knife and a unique topping in preparation for the bread to be enjoyed by the audience.
Through a heightening of the senses, smell and taste become just as important a way of engaging with the work as the visual spectacle – the idea that the art can be read through the body and enjoyed in a participatory way. Having the installation at the launch party aimed to integrate the ‘art’ within the social setting of the ‘music event’ so that the experience and enjoyment of both were not separate but collapsed into each other. It also provided the opportunity to partake in an everyday activity within a unique context.
